WHERE DOES MY DONATION GO?
Since 1985,donor support has led to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada providing $3 million to support the important research into the cause of and cure for brain tumours including the:
RESEARCH GRANT PROGRAM
Proposals that receive funding include research that involves any and/or all of the following:
~The development of new concepts.
~Patient-oriented research such as clinical trials, epidemiological studies, quality of life studies, outcomes, health services research.
~Pre-clinical research evaluating the therapeutic potential of recent discoveries in the basic mechanisms of either brain tumour pathogenesis or experimental therapeutics.
Researchers across Canada are eligible for two research fellowships opportunities through the William Donald Nash Brain Tumour Research Fellowship and the Richard Motyka Brain Tumour Research Fellowship.
BRAIN TUMOUR TISSUE BANK
To aid researchers, the Brain Tumour Tissue Bank, located in London Health Sciences Centre in London, Ontario, Canada has been collecting human brain tumour specimens and matching clinical data for neuro-oncology research since its establishment inInterested researchers can review the information found here and can contact the tissue bank for information about what is currently available. In order to complete a request, an application must be completed.
Research is further supported and promoted with the sponsorship of important events that occur across Canada. This helps to transfer knowledge among researchers and health care professionals; which may lead to the identification of emerging trends, building capacity within the research community and the spurring of innovation around the cause of and cure for brain tumours as well as quality of life issues.
